Life Technologies Will Provide The Genetic Analysis Platform with Its Semiconductor Based

Life Technologies along with Aridhia, a biomedical informatics company, will provide the genetic analysis platform with its semiconductor based, Ion Proton DNA sequencing technology to the Stratified Medicine Scotland Innovation Centre (SMS-IC).

The Ion Proton sequencing platform, which is the primary tool to drive discovery and genetic analysis, will translate chemical information into digital data through a semiconductor chip.

Life Technologies Europe, Middle East and Africa president Peter Silvester said the SMS-IC is a ground breaking project that represents a real opportunity to change the way healthcare will be practiced.

"Life Technologies will provide facilities and the genetic analysis platform with its semiconductor based, Ion Proton DNA sequencing technology, at a speed, accuracy and cost that would have been impossible just a few months ago," Silvester added.

"The vision for this project is to combine an individual's detailed genomic data with more traditional patient information to enable faster, more accurate and effective clinical decisions."

The Ion Proton platform is currently for research use only and not intended for diagnostic purposes.

The SMS-IC's approach to treatment of disease is expected to dramatically improve patient outcomes while minimizing overall healthcare costs.
