ABB Has Secured Orders Worth $20m to Refurbish Generators

Power and automation group ABB has secured orders worth $20m to refurbish generators at two hydroelectric power plants located in southern Switzerland. The Mattmark and Mauvoisin power plants generate 680MW of electricity and represent about 15% of the mountainous canton of Wallis' installed power generation capacity. The contracts were awarded by two power companies managed by Axpo, a Swiss power utility. ABB head of power generation business Franz-Josef Mengede said the upgrade and refurbishment of the hydro power plants will help increase availability of power supplies and enhance efficiency and reliability. "This project is another example of our increased focus on service as a strategic growth driver and leveraging of renewables and energy efficiency as key contributors in minimizing environmental impact, " said Mengede. The company is also executing a $120m order to provide turnkey electrical, automation and control solutions for the Linth-Limmern pumped-storage hydro power station located in the canton of Glarus.
