European Community Granted Funds to Dyadic International's Research and Development Center

The European Community's Seventh Framework Program has granted funds to Dyadic International's research and development center in the Netherlands, a member of the Bio-Mimetic Project, to develop enzymes.

As part of the Bio-Mimetic Project, Dyadic will receive approximately €400,000 to develop enzymes using its patented and proprietary C1 platform technology to degrade and modify lignin.

The three year research project entitled, 'New Bio-Inspired Processes and Products from Renewable Feedstock' will use environmentally-friendly technologies to convert the renewable agricultural waste stream such as lignin into adhesives, detergents and cosmetics.

Dyadic general manager Wim van der Wilden said the company is pleased to have the opportunity to work on a project where it can demonstrate the efficacy and productivity of its C1 technology to use green chemistry to find commercial applications for lignin.

"If successful, this project will be a promising step forward in using this renewable waste stream to replace traditional toxic, expensive and high energy consuming processes," Wilden added.

Procter & Gamble Technical Centers (P&G UK) will serve as the coordinator of the Bio-Mimetic Project Consortium.
