Due to the introduction of new LED light bulb products, global LED light bulb retail pricing in March 2012 showed signs of stability, after continuous price falls in the previous two quarters. According to research institutes, the global average price of LED light bulbs to replace a traditional 40W light bulb returned to US$21/unit in March. The rebound was due to the introduction of new light bulbs with new functions such as sensing and omni lighting angles. Furthermore, due to currency devaluations, the price of LED light bulbs in South Korea and Germany grew by 5% and 6% respectively. The US is the only market that showed a 2% price decrease. The March global price of LED light bulbs to replace traditional 60W incandescent products continued falling by 1.6%, but the magnitude of the price fall has been shrinking. The US market continues to be price-competitive with average price falling to US$25.60/unit, said research institutes. The price of 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in South Korea and the UK showed slight increases in March due to falling exchange rates against the US dollar and price increases by firms. The market believes as customers are more accustomed to high-function LED products, prices will become more stable. Source: www.digitimes.com
