Metal packaging products supplier Crown Holdings has partnered with Web of Things software company Evrythng to embed digital intelligence into consumer packaged goods (CPG).
The partnership will use Internet of Things technology (IoT) to embed real-time and digital intelligence into billions of everyday CPG products.
Under the smart packaging collaboration for CPG products, Crown will add serialized codes that can be scanned by smartphones on products packaged in beverage, food and aerosol cans and specialty packaging tins at the point of manufacture.
The digital triggers will be incorporated with the Evrythng IoT smart products platform to provide each physical product with a unique software identity and data profile in the cloud.
The products manufactured with software capabilities will allow brands to optimize their supply chains by improving product traceability and create a new channel for 1-2-1 consumer engagement.
Smart product applications comprise of product information, supply chain tracking, product reordering, brand protection and personalized content and services.
