According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's total hot rolled coil (HRC) exports amounted to 133,200 metric tons, decreasing month on month following the two-year high recorded in April. In May, Turkish HRC exports fell 33.5 percent compared to the previous month but were more than double compared to May 2012.
Turkey's hot rolled coil exports to Italy fell 14.6 percent in May of the current year compared to the same month of 2012, totaling 33,448 mt, and were down significantly compared to the 100,430 mt recorded in the previous month. The country's hot rolled coil exports to Portugal also saw a significan fall from the previous month in which a record high volume had been recorded.
In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's total hot rolled coil (HRC) exports amounted to 763,542 mt, more than double compared to the corresponding period of 2012. As can be seen in the chart below, Italy was the largest HRC export destination for Turkey in the first five months of the current year.
Meanwhile, in May of the current year Turkey's hot rolled plate exports totaled 4,080 mt, faillng to its lowest level recorded since October 2010. Turkey's hot rolled sheet exports in May amounted to 9,051 mt, falling for the third consecutive month on month-on-month basis, with a 7.4 percent decline from April, while the hot rolled sheet export figure increased 4.9 percent on year-on-year basis.
