Judit Eszter Karpati, a Budapest-based textile designer, has recently created a unique colour changing fabric that can blend itself with the colour of the background, just like a chameleon.“Made in USA” products is becoming an important factor to Purchase
According to Gizmodo India, the fabric installation, which originally is a mix of textile art and digital media, is a programmable, electronic, colour-changing textile interface that can be used in various kinds of applications.
Incorporated with sound files and sensors, the handmade two-piece textile display is woven with nichrome wires and screenprinted with thermochromatic dyes, infused with pre-programmed patterns.
The entire fabric installation is comprised of 12 volt powered arduino and some 20 custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) that control and heat up 4 industrial 24 volt DC power supplies which finally result in revealing the changing colour patterns.
The slow moving installation reacts to environmental changes by “responding with an animated change in pattern.”
Other than fashion and textile design, Judit also specializes in experimental surface designs and interactive textiles using programming.
Her works have been exhibited in countries like Germany, Italy, Estonia, Slovakia, Bohemia, Belgium, Poland, Vienna, Minsk and Budapest.
“My main interest in textile design is the dynamically changing surfaces, structures, integrating interactive technologies into textiles. In my works I’m looking for new ways of interaction between human and textile,” explains Judit on her Chromosonic research project website.
