It is expected that the US demand for fluoropolymers will grow by 5.3% annually to reach $2.4bn (€1.9bn) by 2016, with total volume of 198m pounds (89.8m kilos), according to Freedonia, a market analyst firm.

The popular product fluoropolymer would continue to be polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), as the large part of demand comes from the industrial processing market, and also from new applications such as chemical processing and industrial filtration, europeanplasticsnews.com reported.

Despite this, polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) will show firm growth.

PVF for demand will increase due to the growth in the photovoltaic module segment, while PVDF will gain from the architectural coating segment bounce back.

Demand from the construction segment shows strongest growth - 10.4% over the 2011-2016 period. Growth will in electrical and electronics, transportation, and industrial processing will inch up by 6.5%, 5.7% and 4.1%, with 3.9% in remaining markets.
