Ethylene Plant Is Planed by Occidental Petroleum in Texas

The Los Angeles, California-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. has proposed setting up of a new ethylene plant in Texas.

In its application to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occidental said the construction for the plant in Ingleside near Corpus Christi would commence in December 2014 and the production would start in February 2017.

The Texas plant would produce 1.2 billion pounds of ethylene per annum and generate 123 jobs, according to the application on the EPA’s website.

Occidental has become the latest to join the list of companies that are increasing their capacities to benefit from the booming shale gas supplies that would cut costs for US firms.

Occidental is one of the largest US oil and gas companies, based on equity market capitalization, with more than 40,000 employees and contractors worldwide. The company’s oil and gas operations are concentrated in three core regions of the world – the United States, Middle East/North Africa and Latin America.
