Gemalto Has Launched Sealys Premium Inlays and Ecovers

Digital security firm Gemalto has launched Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers to enable manufacturers produce thinner electronic passports.

Gemalto Unveils Ultra-Thin Inlay and Cover for E-Passports

Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers promises thinner, flatter and more aesthetic passports by clubbing durability of a synthetic film with the thinness of paper.

The new inlays and eCovers passed and exceeded ICAO durability tests, the company said.

The technology enables production of booklets that fold and lie completely flat.

The Netherlands-based company claims that the new inlay offers more protection to delamination, preventing tampering with the microprocessor.

Gemalto marketing and products, government programs vice-president Youzec Kurp said: "As the world's leading supplier of ePassport solutions for over 30 national programs worldwide, we have been able to continually enhance our products, processes and configurations over the past decade.

"Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers are the result of these efforts - a genuine breakthrough that maximizes and integrates all the attributes required in an ePassport, highest security, durability and aesthetics."

Gemalto provides software applications, secure personal devices such as smart cards and tokens, and managed services. It reported annual revenues of €2.5bn in 2014.
