Taiwan-based solar cell makers Neo Solar Power and Topcell Solar International will buy high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon wafers from China-based GCL-Poly Energy Holdings, according to a press report from China.
Neo Solar have signed a 3-year procurement contract with GCL-Poly, and Topcell a 2-year one, with their total procurement reaching 4GWp, said the report from quamnet.
According to industry sources in Taiwan, Taiwan-based solar-grade wafer makers' total annual production capacity meets less than 50% of total demand from Taiwan-based solar cell makers, who therefore have to seek overseas supply. Currently, half of Taiwan-based solar-grade wafer makers have fully utilized their production capacities and the other half are unable to reach full utilization purely due to insufficient manpower, the sources indicated.
