The National Textile Corporation (NTC), a Government of India undertaking, will invest Rs. 4.64 billion on spinning and weaving projects in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, The Hindu reports. The Ministry of Textiles has agreed to sanction 40 new proposals under group approach and 15 new proposals under cluster approach in the state. In addition, setting up of a mega cluster under comprehensive handloom development scheme at Dharmavaram in Anantapur district would be considered in the next Union Budget, Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao said after participating in a meeting on textiles and handlooms convened by the state Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Mr. Rao said the Central Government was examining a proposal for bailing out the handloom park at Pochampally and an official committee will work out the details. The Chief Minister agreed to link skill upgradation in handloom sector with Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu programme.
