ARL Apparels Limited, a Chittagong-based readymade garments manufacturing enterprise, will set up a manufacturing unit in Karnaphuli export processing zone (EPZ), located at about 10-km distance from Chittagong.
As per the agreement signed by ARL Apparels and the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), the company would invest US$ 1.46 million for setting up the factory, Bangladesh’s news agency BSS reported.
The new manufacturing unit will have annual capacity to produce 3.744 million dozens of knitwear and 312,000 dozens of woven garments, and will create 3,245 new job opportunities.
Denim, shirts, jackets, t-shirts, twill, poplin trousers, polo shirts, and intimate apparels would be produced at the new factory.
There are eight EPZs in Bangladesh, namely, Chittagong, Dhaka, Mongla, Ishwardi, Comilla, Uttara, Adamjee, and Karnaphuli.
About 58 percent of units in these EPZs have 100 percent foreign ownership, 28 percent are 100 percent local ventures, and the remaining 14 percent are joint ventures.
