South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors has confirmed its plans to produce an electric vehicle (EV) based on the Soul platform.
The new EV will be the auto maker's first vehicle for the European market.
Kia Motors Europe Marketing and Product Planning vice president Benny Oeyen said, "Kia's all-new Soul will come to Europe as an electric car."
The carmaker also revealed that the battery-powered Soul will also be built with right hand drive and will be a regular production model for sale globally.
Kia currently manufactures an electric version of the Ray, which is a subcompact car for the Korean domestic market, however only few cars are produced for use by government agencies as part of a real-world test fleet.
According to the carmaker, the new EV is expected to be unveiled at 2013 Chicago Auto Show in February or the 2013 New York Auto Show and will be on sale in 2014.
