Inrix, the company behind the traffic information appearing on many built-in and portable automotive navigation systems, announced at CES that they're adding parking information to their services.

CES 2013: Parking Cost, Location Info Coming to Navigation Devices

Inrix aggregates traffic-flow information, meaning that they gather data from a variety of sources from imbedded road sensors and local traffic reports to other users of GPS devices and then turn that information around to send out to drivers. The company will now be doing the same thing with parking information.

By partnering with parking sites ParkMe and Parkopedia, Inrix says they will be able to provide information on rates and availability at 18,000 parking facilities in North America, covering 90 percent of all off-street parking in the United States and Canada.

Set to launch first on aftermarket infotainment systems from Kenwood, Inrix expects the parking information to begin appearing on built-in and portable navigation systems this year. Metered street parking availability is not part of the package yet, but Inrix says that is coming at some point.
