Majestic Seafoods, the joint venture between Frabelle Fishing, Century Canning and Thailand's Thai Union, is set to establish $37.6m tuna cannery in Papua New Guinea.
The 200-ton capacity canning plant will initially create 2,000 new jobs. Once fully operational, it will create nearly 5,000 new jobs. The plant is expected to open in two months.
Majestic Seafoods' new cannery will bring the total daily canned tuna production in Papua New Guinea to more than 1,200 tons, reported Asian Correspondent. With the opening of the new plant, the country will have a total of eight tuna firms.
Recently, Papua Guinea announced that it crossed Philippines as the world's second-largest producer of canned tuna. The Philippines produces an average of 750 tons of canned tuna every day.
