The Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has acknowledged the country s need to increase the production of cement in order to achieve self-sufficiency in the fields of construction and rebuilding.
During a speech made by the PM at the opening ceremonies of the Iraqi - Korean Business and Investment Forum in Baghdad he said "Iraq is seeking to build a cement factory with a capacity of two million tons per week to achieve self-sufficiency in cement production needed for building and reconstruction purposes."
The Iraqi Ministry of Industry runs three cement producers: the Iraqi General Cement Company (Central) with 4 Cement factories, the North General Cement Company which includes 3 factories and the Southern General Cement company with 7 factories.
