Mattress Firm Will Enter The Cleveland Market with The First of Seven Planned Stores

Bedding specialty giant Mattress Firm will enter the Cleveland market this month with the first of seven planned stores.

The publicly held Top 100 company will open in Massillon, Ohio, later this month. Two more will follow in Canton, Ohio; one each in North Olmstead and South Euclid, Ohio; and two in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, with all seven expected to open by mid-November.

All stores will be company-owned, and one of the Mayfield Heights locations will be an approximately 11,000-square-foot supercenter format. The others will be standard stores for the chain, which average about 4,000-square-feet, the company said.

Houston-based Mattress Firm declined to disclose sale projections for the new market, which it said will help solidify its presence throughout Ohio.

The company is looking to hire 15-20 sales associates, store management and warehouse personnel for the new stores.

Each of the new stores will feature more than 55 mattress models from suppliers such as Sealy, Serta and Simmons and Tempur-Pedic.

"Our goal is to make the experience of shopping for a new mattress as simple and rewarding a process as possible, and with our unparalleled selection and knowledgeable staff, we will do just that," Mattress Firm CEO Steve Stagner said in a release.

Store design is centered on the company's Comfort by Color concept, which allows customers to browse and compare styles and brands based on the comfort level of the mattress: firm (yellow), plush (orange), pillow top (red), contoured (green) and personalized (blue).

Mattress Firm is No. 6 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated 2012 sales of $1.17 billion at more than 1,200 company-owned and franchised stores.
