Cass Johnson, President of the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), released the following statement after the Senate Finance Committee’s unanimous voice vote in support of the nomination of Michael Froman to serve as United States Trade Representative (USTR).
“The Finance Committee’s bipartisan and unanimous vote in support of Michael Froman’s nomination serves as a tacit acknowledgement of his qualifications to effectively shape and protect America’s standing among her most competitive trading partners on the world stage.
“The NCTO supports Mr. Froman’s nomination given his explicit support for the ‘yarn forward’ rule of origin, and the vital role the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) will play in bolstering domestic textile and apparel job creation.
"The United States must have a Trade Representative who stands committed to supporting principles that have been regarded as standard in previous free trade agreements, which is why we now urge the United States Senate to move swiftly in confirming Mr. Froman’s nomination.”
