Illinois American Water Completed The Upgradation of Main Station Water Treatment Plant

Illinois American Water has completed the $24m upgradation of the Main Station water treatment plant to meet the new US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. The upgrades include a new facility in Peoria, Illinois, equipped with ultraviolet (UV) water treatment technology to meet EPA regulations and the needs of the consumers, reported pjstar. Com. Illinois American Water spokesperson Karen Cotton said that the plant improvements also include installation of new filters to increase the plant's capacity by eight million gallons per day to meet the demands during the times of draught. Illinois American Water president Karla Olson Teasley added, "It's critical for us to meet and surpass all of our regulatory requirements, but also with the expansion of the facilities, allow us to meet the needs of our customers in Peoria. " The new UV facility will not replace any existing of the facilities instead will add another layer of protection for safe drinking water. The disinfection system utilises UV light to interact with bacteria's DNA, to provide safer water to drink. Cotton concluded that the upgrades are necessary given the size of the 122-year old system.
