Illinois based Automotive Robotics Proving Labs and Purdue University are planning to build a new 50,000ft2 engine testing facility at Purdue Research Park in Indiana, US.

Groundbreaking on the facility is scheduled for late spring and is expected to be completed and operational in mid-2013.

The new $10m facility will feature several test cells and prototype build areas to facilitate testing and analysis of the existing and new engine designs from Caterpillar including the engines developed in Lafayette.

Automotive Robotics Proving Labs president Ravi Gudapati said, "This new facility supports Caterpillar by performing state-of-the-art testing on engines that meet tough new emission and fuel economy requirements."

Purdue Research Foundation senior vice president, treasurer and COO Joseph Hornett said the project also will help leverage the research and development strengths of Automotive Robotics Proving Labs.

"In addition to the five acres to be developed for the facility, another five to 15 acres is available for future expansions," Hornett said.
