108 Duty Crime Suspects Repatriated to China

A total of 108 Chinese suspects committing job-related crimes, with 1.2 billion yuan (185 million U.S.dollars) of embezzled money involved, have been repatriated during the past 15 months, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced on Wednesday.

The SPP launched a special operation in September 2014 to target and hunt down these suspects fleeing overseas.

Seventy suspects, or 65 percent of the total, returned to China by persuasion, including Wang Guoqiang, former Party chief of Fengcheng city in Liaoning Province.

Also among absconded officials, 31 have stayed abroad for more than ten years.

Some of the suspects had embezzled large sums of money, with 24 of them involved with fraudulent gains worth more than 5 million yuan each.

The SPP said China's prosecuting organs will continue with the special operation in 2016 to bring more fugitive suspects to justice.
