A ‘police-spec’ BMW 428i Coupe has been unveiled at the Essen motor show in Germany, thanks to the crew at BMW tuning specialist AC Schnitzer.
Part of Germany’s ‘Tune It! Safe!’ campaign, aimed at encouraging tuners to modify cars safely and legally, the AC Schnitzer BMW 428i Coupe police car has an upgraded turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 216kW and 420Nm – up 36kW and 70Nm from standard. Dubbed the ACS4 2.8i Coupe, the Aachen-based company claims a 5.7sec 0-100km/h – a 0.1sec improvement.
Apart from tuning the engine, AC Schnitzer has also fitted a chrome-tipped quad-exit stainless steel sports exhaust, adjustable racing suspension, and new front and rear spoilers, rear diffuser, and rear roof spoiler.
Teamed with lightweight 21-inch forged alloy wheels – and all the appropriate lights, sirens and decals – the tuner claims the package brings with it a weight saving of 100kg as well as reductions in fuel consumption (0.1L/100km) and emissions (3g/km).
Inside, the two-door BMW gains aluminium pedals and footrest, a ‘Black Line’ handbrake lever and velour floor mats.
Backed by the motto, “Only serious and safe tuning will bring the driving fun you want!”, the Association of German Vehicle Tuners (VDAT), and its ‘Tune It! Safe!’ campaign, are supported by German police and the Federal Ministry for Transport, Construction and Road Development.
Launched in Australia in October, the BMW 4 Series Coupe is priced from $71,800, with the $69,500 420i Coupe to join the line-up in January.
