There Is a Need to Follow Chinese Model for Promoting Indigenous Indian Products Like Kha

KH Muniyappa, India’s Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, said there is a need to follow Chinese model for promoting indigenous Indian products like khadi.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Khadi Darshan – 2014, an exhibition related to Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), in Bangalore, the Minister said that Chinese products, especially electronic items, can be found in Indian markets at lower prices because of the Chinese Government’s support to manufacturers.

There is need to adopt the model for Indian products like khadi in order make them available in the market at lower price, the Minister said, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

Mr. Muniyappa said his Ministry was supplying 100,000 solar-driven charakas to various beneficiaries, of which, 5,000 would be distributed in Karnataka state. The cost for charakas would be shared equally by the Central and state governments, he added.

Under the PMEGP, loan would be given to 100 unemployed youth in every district during 2013-14, he informed.
