Russia-based pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has stated that it has cancelled its plans to launch its own terminal for export at the port of Ust-Luga in the St. Petersburg region.

The company planned to launch the Baltic metallurgical terminal (BMT) with a capacity of up to 2 million mt per year and the possibility of an expansion to 4 million mt. But in 2013, the company faced difficulties relating to access to railway infrastructure after Russian Railways reduced works on development of infrastructure at the near approaches to the port of Ust-Luga and on the construction of a station in Ust-Luga, citing lack of funds.
