In September this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 8.22 percent year on year to 301,245 metric tons, up 46.17 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $165.62 million, up 0.71 percent year on year and increasing by 49.57 percent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of this year, Turkey imported 2,279,758 mt of billet and bloom, up 29.11 percent, with a value of $1.27 billion, increasing by 15 percent, both year on year.
In September this year, Turkey imported 141,182 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, 41.78 percent higher month on month and 100 percent higher compared to September 2012, occupying first place among Turkey's major billet and bloom import sources in the given month, ahead of Ukraine. Nevertheless, in the first nine months of the year Ukraine's billet and bloom exports to Turkey increased by 39.08 percent year on year to 1.19 million mt, with Ukraine being the top supplier of billet and bloom to Turkey in this period.
