BHP Billiton Abandoned Plans to Build a $5 Billion Coal Export Terminal in Queensland

Australian miner BHP Billiton has abandoned plans to build a $5 billion coal export terminal at Abbot Point port in Queensland, according to media reports. The company is reportedly halting all growth projects in its Queensland coking coal operations in response to the weakness in the global coal markets.

The $5 billion project was expected to go into operation in 2015, transporting up to 60 million mt of coal per year.
