Indian automobile major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is gearing up to unveil a light commercial vehicle Jeeto by June-end.
In what has been inferred as a bid to compete with minitruck Ace Zip, manufactured by Indian automotive giant Tata Motors, the company aims at attaining a turnaround with the new model, according to media reports.
With sales of its light commercial vehicles going south for the past two years, the new avatar is set to take on Ace Zip that flaunts a payload capacity of 600kg and is available at INR2.55 lakh.
Mahindra & Mahindra's mini truck lineup has Gio and Maxximo Plus. Its Zaheerabad manufacturing unit in Telangana will be entrusted with making the new Jeeto.
In a statement cited in Hindu BusinessLine, M&M president & chief executive (automotive) Pravin Shah said: "We are all set to create a new benchmark in the small commercial vehicle segment with Jeeto, which truly embodies the Mahindra Rise philosophy. It will enable our customers to enhance their earnings and help them progress in life.
"Today Mahindra offers the widest range of commercial vehicles to cater to the varied needs of its customers and this has been possible due to the customer insights which we have worked upon. With the Jeeto we are planning to create a compelling new value proposition that will not only challenge the conventional but will also delight our customers."
Besides, the new vehicle would be powered by m_Dura engine, touted to be an all new engine direct injection (DI) diesel engine.
