A Wellford, S.C.-based manufacturer of specialty chemicals for textiles, pulp and paper, consumer, food and beverage, and other applications — has introduced StarSoft BIS 45 reactive silicone softener for finishing 100-percent cotton knits and high-cotton-content blends.
The company reports the formaldehyde-free, self-crosslinking softener provides improved strength, elasticity and abrasion resistance in addition to imparting a soft, slick hand. StarSoft BIS 45 also is durable to laundering and enables garments to retain their original appearance for several wash cycles.
The softener is applied from a pad bath at 2-10 percent on-weight-of-bath concentrations depending on the desired hand, and is compatible with resin finishes.
