AHMSA Successfully Completed The Reconstruction in One of Their Blast Furnaces

Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) successfully completed the reconstruction in one of their blast furnaces this week, with an investment of US$7.6 million. The project interconnects the systems hot and cold air, gas collection and chimneys, according to media statement of the company.

Blast furnace 5, the highest capacity unit at AHMSA, has four stoves, three in operation and one in reserve.

One of the blast furnance’s stoves was rebuilt with 250 tons of steel plates and the inside coating was installed with 3000 tons of refractory brick of different specifications.

After the stove was reconnected, the Company launched their next step of drying the refractory brick and the interior heating for a period of 18 days, a process developed by specialists. Tests will be conducted in parallel control systems, instrumentation and automation to ensure safe operation.
