Nokia N1 Went on Sale in China Yesterday and Sold out Within Just Four Minutes

The Nokia N1 seemingly came out of nowhere, marking itself as the Finnish firm’s virginal take on tablets, and its first product since the Microsoft branding split.

Fortunately for Nokia, demand seems high, as its tablet went on sale in China yesterday and sold out within just four minutes.

The initial batch was 20,000 units strong, but that paled in comparison to reported queues of 566,438 buyers, as noted by NPU.

This means upwards of half a million potential customers were left wanting as a result of Nokia’s stock shortage.

Luckily, Nokia has plans to offer a second round of N1 slates on January 15, with sales kicking off at 12 noon, local time.

It’s not yet clear what Nokia’s plans are in terms of a European rollout, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.

So what do you actually get with the Nokia N1? Actually quite a lot. The formidable slate proffers a 7.9-inch display with a 1536 x 2048 resolution – that’s a pixel desntiy of 324 ppi.

Inside lies a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 chip paired with 2GB of RAM, as well as a beefy 5,300mAh li-ion battery.

Snapping seems on point too, with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera making appearances.

All this is powered by Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, giving you access to all the goodies on offer from the Google Play Store – a stark contrast from previous Windows-powered Nokia handsets.

The real kicker is that this impressive tablet costs a paltry $257 – that equates to just under £170 in pounds sterling. Not bad at all.
