Canadian dairy cooperative Agropur has announced its plans to invest more than$100m to boost the cheese and ingredients production capacity of its facility in Luxemburg,Wisconsin.
The investment will also improve the technology of the whey processing facility and wastewater treatment system,bringing it up to high environmental standards.
The project is expected to be completed by 2014.
Agropur chief executive officer Robert Coallier said that this investment marks the company's largest capitalization project to date.
"We are committed to and believe in the future of the US dairy industry,and we are here for the long haul,"Coallier added.
Agropur,founded in 1938,processes nearly 7 billion pounds of milk per year in its 25 plants across Canada and the US.The company has seven plants in the US,four of which are located in Wisconsin.It has sales of about$3.6bn and employs 5,700 people.
