Japanese carmaker Mazda has decided to extend the production of special edition RX-8 SPIRIT R sports car by 1,000 units, claiming the rise in demand for the sports car in the country.
The company had initially planned to produce only 1,000 vehicles of the four-door, four-seat rotary engine sports car which was on sale from November last year.
The RX-8 Spirit R is based on either the RX-8 Type RS featuring a six-speed manual transmission or Type E with six-speed automatic transmission.
Its 6-speed manual version is priced at JPY3.25m ($40,090), while 6-speed electronically-controlled automatic (Activematic) version is priced at JPY3.12m ($38,486).
It will be equipped with 225/40R19 89W tires and 19-inch forged aluminum wheels (bronze)
Mazda is planning to end the production of the RX-8 in June next year.
