BPA in Food Packaging Is Witnessing'contradictory'messages with Regulatory Bodies

France's decision to ban bisphenol A(BPA)in food packaging is witnessing'contradictory'messages with regulatory bodies still claiming that the chemical is safe, according to the BPA Coalition an association which supports the use of chemical.

The French Senate Committee has recently ruled a ban on the use of BPA in food contact packaging due to take effect from 1 July 2015.

However,it will implement the ban from 2013 for products recommended for children under three years.

BPA Coalition spokesperson Geneviève De Bauw told Foodproduction Daily.com that the decision shows unpredictability in the regulatory framework for industry and consumers.

European Food Safety Authority(EFSA)is working on its risk assessment of BPA used in food contact materials, which is expected to be delivered in May 2013.

"We trust the EFSA review to provide clearer, high level view of where we are and if there are gaps, then we can go about them and replicate any studies,"De Bauw said.
