Finland’s wood product exports increased by 4% in 2011, according to fresh statistics released by the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF). While timber exports increased, pulp and paper exports remained at the same level as 2010. Sawn timber production grew 7% from the previous year to about 10 million m³. FFIF said the value of all forest industry production rose 2% to 0.8bn in 2011, with the value of total exports up by 4%. It described 2011 as a year of two halves, with the first six months “positive”, while the second half saw production volumes depressed by the European financial crisis. A decision to amend the energy tax refund mechanism at the start of 2012 boosted competitiveness in the forest products industry. Source: ttjonline.com
