Flexible Pipe Couplings Connect Different Types and Sizes of Plumbing Pipes

Flexible pipe couplings connect different types and sizes of plumbing pipes. The rubber body of the coupling allows it to conform to the size of the pipes when slipped over a connection. Two or more stainless steel bands seal the seam between the inside surfaces of the coupling and the outside walls of the pipes entering the connection. Proper installation of a flexible pipe coupling ensures fluids do not leak around the completed connection. Instructions 1)Clean the ends of both pipes entering the flexible pipe coupling by wiping around their circumferences with a rag. Ensure both ends of pipe are clean before continuing. 2)Turn the hex head of each stainless steel band bolt counterclockwise with a 5/16-inch nut driver. Loosen the bolts until each band slides around the flexible pipe coupling with little or no pressure. 3)Slide one end of the flexible pipe coupling over one cleaned pipe end. Slide the second pipe in the second side of the coupling. Slide the coupling to align its center with the seam with the two pipes. 4)Attach a 5/16-inch socket to the end of a torque wrench. Move the stainless steel bands to place the head of each band bolt in an easy-to-reach location. Set the torque on the wrench to the specifications provided by the flexible coupling manufacturer. 5)Tighten each band bolt by turning it clockwise with the set torque wrench starting at one end of the flexible pipe coupling. Check each tighten band with the torque wrench to ensure each band is set to the correct torque setting.
