North America and European OSB Producers Try to Hold Their Positions on Asian Markets

North America and European OSB producers are trying to hold their positions on Asian export markets despite a positive trend in sales in their respective home markets. OSB suppliers managed to reap the rewards of rising plywood prices so far in the first quarter in Japan, the largest market by far. More Japanese buyers have switched back to OSB as a result. Stronger demand for OSB has led North American OSB manufacturers to institute at least slight mark-ups for exports to Japan, according to a report in the US information service Random Lengths. These increases were smaller than the sustained hikes in OSB prices in the US.
