Cigna has started offering critical illness coverage as part of its individual and family plans portfolio, effective from 01 May 2013.
Marketed and administered through Cigna Supplemental Benefits division in Austin, Texas, US, the supplemental product has been designed to help protect individuals from unexpected medical expenses.
If diagnosed with one of the 15 illnesses outlined in the policy, the coverage helps customers to protect from paying a huge cash benefit directly to the individual.
Cigna Individual and Family Plans Sales vice president Dale Fratianne said that the new product will help customers pay for unexpected out-of-pocket costs when diagnosed with a critical illness.
The product will also be offered through brokers in Colorado, Texas and Tennessee, US.
Cigna Sales & Marketing divisional vice-president David Chambers said, "Cash Advantage Critical Illness offers them a sense of security knowing they will have extra cash to help provide for their needs should they be diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses covered in this plan."
