Hengli Petrochemical Industrial Park, which mainly engages in the production of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), used extensively in the production of textiles, has begun operations at its plant in Dalian located in Northeast China’s Liaoning province.
Chen Jianhua, President of Jiangsu based Hengli Group, one of the world’s leading weaving firms, said the new PTA park set up in Dalian Changxingdao Economic Development Area with an overall investment of 26 billion yuan (US$ 4.12 billion) is expected to reap an annual revenue of 200 billion yuan by 2015.
The project would help the firm expand its production chain, and would also ease the raw material scarcity faced by the domestic textile industry.
Mr. Chen said they have made all attempts to make the project eco-friendly through use of advanced technology of US-based Invista, one of the world’s biggest integrated producers of polymers and fibres. Though the technology is of high level, it involves very less energy consumption, he added.
Head of Changxingdao administration, Jin Cheng said the project is a step ahead in developing a world-class petrochemical industrial base.
The industrial park spans on an area of 110 square kilometres, and is expected to have production capacity of 7 million ton PTA and other petrochemical products like, propylene, polyester, PX and ethylene by 2030, he said.
He said a world-class petrochemical base ought to have first-class service providers, and hence, Changxingdao has engaged globally reputed firms to provide high-level public facilities, like seawater desalination, industrial gas, sewage treatment and wharf ware housing integration.
Mayor of Dalian, Li Wancai, said Changxingdao is an important part of the Liaoning Coastal Economic Belt, which benefits from several policies favourable for rapid growth. The new project is of much importance for extension of Dalian’s petrochemical production chain and industry’ structural adjustment, he added.
