Germany Are to Lose Their Jobs

Tags: Lights, Lighting

More than 200 staff at Osram's Siteco Beleuchtungstechnik factory in Traunreut, Germany are to lose their jobs, with those working in administration, logistics and production, most affected.

Siteco manufactures indoor and outdoor lighting systems for commercial and some retail customers, and was acquired by Osram in 2011. The plant in Traunreut currently employs more than 1,000 people.

The move is part of Osram's realignment of its Luminaires & Solutions reporting segment, which "recorded a significant loss in the first nine months of fiscal year 2013 on the back of declining revenue", said the company.

These latest cuts – to take effect by the end of the financial year in 2015 – come on top of 900 job losses in North America, announced at the end of September.

Those cuts to the company's traditional lighting maintenance service business, Sylvania Lighting Services, will take effect within the next six months as Osram is to "discontinue a significant part of its locations in the US and Canada", according to a company statement.
