Pepsi Initiats a New Project Replaced Merchant-Supplied Bottles

Pepsi Beverages Company (PBC) has initiated a new project that replaced merchant-supplied bottles with energy-efficient, onsite, plastic bottle production, with a $10m investment at its Latham, New York bottling facility in the US.

As part of Governor Andrew Cuomo's Regional Council initiative, the company secured $286,000 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for the project.

The NYSERDA grant helped PBC pay for a new bottle production system that helped the company to increase production.

The company is using energy efficient blow molding equipment at the plant to reduce its annual energy use by more than 2.4 million kilowatt hours, equal to electricity needed to power about 350 homes a year.

Energy costs are also cut down as the bottles no longer need to be transported to the Latham bottling facility.
