IZettle Begun Selling Mobile Payment Technology in The UK Through Partnership with EE

iZettle has begun selling its mobile payment technology in the UK through a partnership with mobile operator EE.

The Swedish firm has designed card readers that can be attached to smartphones and, with the addition of a free app download, small businesses will be able to take payments directly and on the move.

The device works with both Apple iOS and Android devices – if running version 2.1 or above – and accepts payments from Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.

It will cost £20 from EE shops and any purchase will also come with a £20 voucher to go towards the transactions fees charged by iZettle – 2.75% of each transaction.

iZettle has already rolled out its product in its home country and last week announced availability in Germany, but it is the first time the product will be commercially available in the UK, following beta testing carried out by 4,000 users over the past six months.

"The beauty of iZettle is that it's simple to use, totally secure and takes seconds for a transaction," said Jacob de Geer, CEO and co-founder of iZettle. "Whether you are a cabbie, florist, tradesperson or a courier, iZettle gives you the flexibility to operate in both cash and cards."

Businesses and consumers are on the cusp of mobile payment transformation

iZettle already has 75,000 small businesses and independent users signed up, and believes there is a market of up to three million more in the UK alone.

"The possibilities are endless because hundreds of thousands of small businesses can now take plastic," added de Geer.

"iZettle is a revolution for small businesses and consumers across the nation," said EE chief marketing officer Gerry McQuade. "Businesses and consumers are on the cusp of mobile payment transformation and we are delighted to bring iZettle to market, enhancing our mobile payment portfolio."

The iZettle product will be available across the recently rebranded EE stores and through EE's telesales channel.
