The TJX Companies plans to open its first Sierra Trading Post (STP) stores since acquiring the retailer later this year and has grown much more enamored with the outdoor space, CEO Carol Meyrowitz said Wednesday.
"The whole space we're very excited about," she said, adding that there may be room for a HomeGoods type of store in the active and outdoor space.
Myrowtiz said the new stores would offer expansive assortments, which apparently will include athleticand team products. She did not say how many or where the stores will be located, but described them as a " value-driven outdoor concept, based on the same off-price model of all of our stores."
TJX acquired Sierra Trading Post in 2012 to accelerate development of an online channel for its other banners, which include T.J. Maxx, Marshall'sm Marmaxx and HomeGoods.
Myrowitz said she did not yet how whether Sierra Trading Post or sporting goods would become a big part of TJX's business.
"I mean we're just starting to open our stores and look ?like anything else, we hope it's going to be a big chain in the future."
