Osram's head of OLED has said that demand for organic solutions from the automotive sector will drive down prices and increase product innovation.
Speaking at Light + Building 2014, Dr Ulrich Eisele said input from the sector would hasten the tipping point when OLED solutions would be suitable for regular commercial lighting applications.

"No sector has higher standards than the automotive sector," said Eisele. "Car manufacturers want to be the first to market with OLED solutions and the increased volume coming from this sector will drive down prices but also increase innovation."
He went on to compare the OLEDs on display at the exhibition with the ones that the manufacturer was producing at the last fair. "At Light + Building 2012 we were producing OLED panels that could deliver 40 lumens per watt with a lifetime of 10,000 hours (L70). At Light + Builing 2014 we have panels with an efficacy of 65 lumens per watt and a lifetime of 15,000 hours. We are now also able to fulfil 600 lux requirements with the technology."
