Xanofi, a nanotechnology company specializing in nanofiber production and  applications, has been granted a prestigious Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This funding will help Xanofi build a working prototype for efficiently spraying polymeric nanofibers on commercial roll good production lines.

The SBIR program is a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in federal research/research and development (R/R&D) that has the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, the SBIR program enables small businesses to explore their technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization.

This grant will allow Xanofi to build an integrated, turnkey commercialize nanofiber spraying system so that the significant value of nanofibers can be more widely applied to the US nonwovens manufacturing sector. Existing technologies apply nanofibers at very slow line speeds as a low basis weight surface coating — the XanoSpray™ system will target normal line speeds with coatings up to 10 grams per square meter.
