The Environmental Protection Agency of the Chinese city of Tianjin has announced that it plans to eliminate 1.4 million mt and 2.29 million mt respectively of outdated steel and cement production capacities in the city before the end of the current year. Furthermore, by 2017 production capacities in the iron and steel sector and cement sector in Tianjin are to be restricted to 20 million mt and 5 million mt respectively.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Tianjin will strictly regulate the approval of new projects in the local iron and steel, building materials and coal power sectors.
