India Has Sought Setting up of an Institute for Handloom Technology in The Kullu District

The state government of Himachal Pradesh in India has sought setting up of an institute for handloom technology in the Kullu District.
 
According to a statement issued by the state government, Pratibha Singh, Member of Parliament (MP), met the Union Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao in New Delhi, and sought opening of Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Kullu district.
 
The institute would meet the growing demand of latest design, technology and skilled manpower in the handloom and handicraft sector in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
 
Ms. Singh said the Kullu, Chamba, Shimla and Kinnaur districts were famous in Himachal Pradesh for woolen caps and shawls as well as other woolen products which have a huge demand in India and other countries.
 
According to the statement, the MP requested the Union Government to set up a Centre of Excellence in Handloom Technology to modernize the handloom sector of the state which produces world quality products in the region, as well as opening new marketing avenues at national and international level.
 
The MP appealed for setting up of weaving service centers in Chamba, Rampur, Kalpa and Keylong districts to assist and train the local artisans for skill development.
 
The MP also requested the Union Minister to sanction two more Integrated Textile Parks for the state to be set up in Una and Kangra districts.
 
According to the statement, Ms. Singh said the state government had already submitted a detailed proposal to the Union Textiles Ministry in this regard and assured that it would provide land, infrastructure and other facilities for setting up the park and provide speedy clearances under Single Window Scheme.
 
Mr. Rao said the Textiles Ministry would send high level team to assess the implementation of various schemes in Himachal Pradesh and Union Government would provide all assistance to the state government.
