Acer Sets up Joint-Venture Venture Capital in China

Acer, in line with promoting its Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) business, has established joint-venture venture capital of CNY100 million (US$15.75 million) in Chongqing City, western China, with Acer holding a 30% stake and Taiwan-based ODM Wistron, China-based ZTEsoft and the city government holding 20%, 10% and 40% stakes, respectively, according to Acer.

In addition, Acer has already launched three new cloud computing-related projects: aBeing One, CloudProfessor and abPBX plus cloud, and will start more projects for its BYOC platform later.

Commenting on Acer's cloud computing platform, company founder Stan Shih said that Acer has a firm business direction, but the platform will still require some times to fully grow. Its plan to recruit a 1,000-technician R&D team is currently ongoing.
