The Restrictions Have Become More Pronounced in Recent Weeks for Seasonal Reasons

The restrictions that were already noticeable in obtaining African logs in September have become more pronounced in recent weeks for seasonal reasons. On the one hand the log harvest has been generally hampered by heavy rainfall. On the other, German importers and agents are saying volumes under contract are mostly being shipped with delays because many roads and bridges were impassable during the rainy season, preventing the goods from being brought to the ports. The import trade says this has not given rise to any major supply problems for Germany buyers of African logs, however. As demand has been comparatively slack lately, enquiries have generally been able to be handled using existing stocks. Necessary stock replenishment can mostly be achieved through trade with other importers. No significant changes are expected in business in logs from Africa in the weeks ahead. The price level, too, is mostly considered to be stable overall. Source: euwid-wood-products.com
