Taiwan-based LED firms are targeting DoB (driver on board) orders from 6,000-7,000 small- to medium-size regional lighting vendors mostly in the US and Europe, according to industry sources.
DoB integrates high-voltage chips and driver ICs on substrates to simplify LED lighting structures, allowing such vendors to easily assemble LED lamps, the sources said.
Korea-based Seoul Semiconductor has been actively promoting DoB. The market has seen technology mature in 2014 and is expected to take off in 2015, the sources indicated.
Taiwan-based LED chip maker Epistar has produced high-voltage models to compete for DoB orders through cooperation with packaging houses Everlight Electronics, Edison Opto and ProLight Opto Technology, the sources said.
Taiwan-based vertically-integrated firm Lextar Electronics, to enhance its competitiveness in the segment, has developed six DoB solutions with chip voltages ranging from 18-65V and expects shipments to begin in second-quarter 2015, the sources indicated.
